TEMPO.CO, Bandung - Home Affairs Ministry Tjahjo Kumolo touched on the recent political uproar during his speech on the inauguration ceremony of West Java acting governor Comr. Gen. Mochamad Iriawan in Merdeka building, Bandung, on Monday, June 18.
“Pak Iriawan has a duty to prevent various coalitions such as West Java coalition, Jakarta coalition, that or this coalition [to show up]. There are only two; speaking and working groups. People who only talk are in speaking coalition, while those who work are in working coalition,” said Tjahjo.
Tjahjo delivered the statement after demanding all parties support the simultaneous regional head election which falls on nine days ahead. “Let’s commit to eradicating money politics. Let’s hold and support campaign using program, concepts, or ideas that can quicken the development. Let’s avoid campaign filled with hate speech, SARA, or defamation,” he stated.
When asked which party is the speaking and working coalition after inaugurated Iriawan, Tjahjo told reporters, “don’t ask me, ask those who like talking.”
Tjahjo claimed he supported President Joko Widodo in the working coalition. “I’m a subordinate of Pak Jokowi who surely in the working coalition, that’s it. [We] work at our best according to the existing law,” he explained.
Tjahjo stated he deliberately touched on the two coalitions as his concern towards the election situation which he deemed should teach the public about the good political education.
“Don’t make the community surrounded by the propaganda of defamation, let alone hate speech. Let’s compete with programs, concepts, or ideas. This is Indonesian coalition, don’t create A, B, or C coalition. Everything is the same,” he noted.
The minister further said that all parties could have different opinions. “[That] should be respected. And we can share our aspiration during the campaign period of legislative, presidential elections,” said Tjahjo Kumolo today.
