134 Died in Traffic Accidents ahead of Eid

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The police said that four days before the Eid al-Fitr there have been 633 road accidents with 134 casualties. The number of accidents is 19 percent lower than last year`s.
As of June 11, the accidents have caused the loss of 134 lives, “down 40 percent from last year,” police spokesman Sr. Comr. Yusri Yunus said on Tuesday, June 12.
Yusri added that 312 people died from accidents during last year's Eid homecoming period.
This year so far, the number of people wounded or hurt due to Eid homecoming traffic accidents is 286, of which 28 people suffered severe injuries and 258 suffered mild ones.
Yusri said that most of these accidents were caused by drivers’ carelessness. Most accidents happened in the morning between 09:00 and 12:00. He added that 232 of the 633 accidents happened to motorcycles.
Meanwhile, the police have given tickets to 23,913 drivers reminded 31,868 for road violations.
