TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Research, Technology and Higher Education Minister, Mohamad Nasir, said he was drafting a Ministerial Decree to coordinate all research institutions in Indonesia.

“We are preparing derivative regulations of the presidential decree on the national research master plan (RIRN) in the form of a ministerial decree related to the matter,” said Nasir today in Jakarta.

The first regulation, he mentioned, would focus on technical coordination of inter-institution with the ministry as the coordinator. “The ministry has a duty on education and technology affairs,” he said.

The Presidential Decree No. 38/2018 on RIRN stipulates all independent research institutions should be coordinated.

“In 2017, some Rp24.9 billion was earmarked for research institutions, and with that what was the result? There was duplication of research. Thus RIRN is expected to control all studies,” he added.

Nasir explained the institutions will be integrated and centered in the Research Center for Science and Technology (Puspitek), Serpong, Tangerang. “There will be no new institutions because President is against it so [things] will be more efficient.”
