TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) and Democrat Party considered an opportunity to form a coalition in 2019 presidential elections. The chairman of Democrat’s Joint Task Force Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono or AHY has reportedly met with Gerindra’s team leader for 2019 Election Sandiaga Uno.

"The meeting was a good step. From the beginning, we said that we and PKS continue to communicate with various political parties who are eager to build a better nation," said a member of Gerindra Communication Board, Andre Rosiade, when contacted by Tempo on Saturday, May 19.

According to Andre, Gerindra's political communication with other parties indicated that the coalition effort went well. He said the community now needs a revolution from the economic downturn and the high living cost that hamper people’s prosperity.

Until now, Gerindra has only declared a coalition with the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) and will carry its general chairman Prabowo Subianto as the presidential candidate. There has been no decision about Prabowo's running mate thus far. While Democrat Party has not determined any coalition form yet despite presenting AHY as one of the candidates in the presidential election.

Andre stated AHY is among the 15 names of vice presidential candidates targeted by Gerindra to accompany Prabowo Subianto. According to him, Gerindra is still open to such opportunities.

However, the decision will later be determined by coalition party including PKS. Earlier, PKS has asked Gerindra to choose its cadres to assist Prabowo Subianto in 2019 presidential election as a condition of the coalition. "Vice Presidential candidate for Prabowo will be decided in a meeting between Pak Prabowo and the leader of coalition parties," Andre added.
