TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The climbers of Mount Gede, West Java, have reached 600 people per daythe maximum quota of climbers set by the national park. Most of them are millennials.

The data are recorded in the registration forms of Mount Gede Pangrango National Park (TNGGP), West Java, from the three tracks of Mount Gede, viz. Cibodas path, Mount Putri and Suryakencana.

"As many as 75 percent of climbers are in their 20s," the head of TNGGP service and utilization, Johanes Wiharesno, told Tempo at Indofest at the Jakarta Convention Center on Sunday, May 6.

The average climbers hail from Jakarta and West Java, such as Bandung and Bogor. Since the climbing route was reopened post the ecosystem recovery in April, the total number of Mount Gede climbers has reached 9,000.

According to Johanes, there is a change in the climbers' trend, where in the past the climbers mostly comprised groups of nature lovers.

"The trend has changed since there is the 5 cm film," he said.

The movie, directed by Rizal Mantovani and released in 2012, has again put climbing activities in the public limelight, with millenials flocking to the area on weekends and long holidays.

The Cibodas track of Mount Gede has become the climbers' favorite, which saw a daily average of 300 climbers. The Suryakencana and Mount Putri tracks, meanwhile, recorded 200 and 100 climbers a day in average, respectively.
