TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - On early Saturday, April 14, 2018, the United States, United Kingdom, and French armed forces launched air strikes against Syria in response to the recent suspected chemical weapon attack that killed dozens of people. The attack is said to be the biggest Western intervention against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime. The attack was announced by US President Donald Trump.

British Prime Minister Theresa Mae and French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed that both countries forces had joined in the attack.

According to a report by Reuters news agency, US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis stated that the attack is a "one time shot". However, President Trump hinted that future strikes might be carried out if President Assad repeated his use of chemical weapons.

"We are prepared to sustain this response until the Syrian regime stops its use of prohibited chemical agents," the Trump said in a televised address, as quoted by Reuters.
