TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Severe traffic congestion continue to occur along the Mampang and Kuningan road on South Jakarta despite the newly built Mampang-Kuningan underpass opened on Wednesday, April 11, 2018. The Jakarta Administration conducted a trial to the 850-meter-long underpass, which was constructed for over 16 months.
Based on Tempo observation on the location at around 7:30 PM, congestion remains apparent along Jl. Terusan H.R. Rasuna Said from Mampang Kuningan intersection to Mampang Tendean intersection.
A trader around the area named Parmin (70) confirmed the conditions. “Yes, I’m also confused why the traffic still dense, congested," Parmin said.
Jakarta Deputy Governor previously claimed that the underpass could alleviate the congestion by 15 to 20 percent.
However, the traffic condition was considered unchanged before the underpass was constructed. it is presumed that traffic remains congested because some people are reluctant to pass Mampang-Kuningan underpass.
