TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Owner of Indonesian retail store Alfamart, PT Sumber Alfaria Trijaya, plans to expand its market by opening 150 brand new outlets in the Philippines. Alfamart currently has 400 outlets throughout the pearl of the orient seas.

“We currently have 400 outlets through our overseas expansion in the Philippines. Our goal this year is to add another 150 outlets,” said President Director of PT Sumber Alfaria Trijaya Hans Prawiraafter signing a deal with Standard Chartered Bank in Jakarta on Monday, April 2.

The 400 outlets, according to Hans, is currently centered in the Greater Manila but following significantly positive market response based on its same-store sales growth, the brand is set to open new outlets in regions outside of Manila.

“It is still relatively small, but we are enamored with the positive progress and the sale store growth that is attractive. This is similar to Alfamart’s situation 10-12 years ago when we still enjoyed our double-digit sale store growth,” said Hans.

On the other hand, Alfamart plans to open 800 new outlets domestically in 2018 that consist of 150 franchises and 650 regular stores that will accompany the existing 13,477 outlets. However, 50 percent of those new outlets will be positioned within the Java Island while other regions will be adapted to distribution centers in Sulawesi, Kalimantan, and Sumatra.
