TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chairman of the Indonesian Consumers Foundation (YLKI) Tulus Abadi stated, the increase of canned sardine and mackerel products containing worms worries consumers.
Tulus argued the decision of the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) to announce the 27 brands of canned mackerel fish containing worms as the right step.
“For the context of protecting consumers, it is (already appropriate),” said Tulus when contacted by Tempo on Monday, April 2.
Moreover, YLKI requested BPOM not only to withdraw the products contaminated by worms but also to investigate the production process from the beginning until it is ready for sale.
Tulus said BPOM needs to supervise on the circulation of canned products in the market after the withdrawal.
