TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The United Nations` Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) stated that the agriculture and land of Indonesia is the world agricultural learning place.
"We have assigned many technical experts in the sectors of food, agriculture, fisheries, and forestry to conduct their study in Indonesia," said FAO Indonesia representative Mark Smulders at Balairung Soesilo Soedirman, Sapta Pesona, Tourism Ministry Building, Jakarta, March 15.
Since 1948, Indonesia has become a member of FAO and its representative office was built in 1978. To date, FAO has completed more than 650 programs with the help of 1,600 experts and consultants.
Smulders said FAO in exchange had facilitated Indonesian involvement in Asia Pacific cooperation and even the world forum. FAO and Indonesia expected to reach Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, despite Indonesia facing major challenges such as poverty.
“The other problem was the threats of climate changes, population growth, and urbanization. Our partnership will keep running through the exchange of knowledge, technology, and practices in food and agriculture sector," he stated.
Smulders hoped FAO and Indonesia partnership will become stronger as to overcome the challenges ahead. He asserted the program was aimed to improve agriculture, forestry and fisheries practices and ensure good nutrition and food security to the world, besides Indonesia as the host country.
