TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto has labeled the people involved in the hate-speech group dubbing themselves the Family Muslim Cyber Army (Family MCA) as traitors.
“[They are called] traitors when they disrupt the government’s efforts to safeguard the country’s security and hold a smooth election process. That is a crime. That is why I urge the police to arrest and severely punish them,” he said at his office today.
Earlier, Wiranto has warned that Indonesia’s political climate is bound to simmer ahead of the regional and presidential elections that will be held across the country.
“That [situation] is normal, but don’t let any group of people disrupt it even further,” said Wiranto.
Previously, the police's head of the Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim), Comr. Gen. Ari Dono Sukmanto, announced five people had been named suspects for spreading hoaxes on social media platforms and Whatsapp messenger. They dub themselves the Family MCA.
The police nabbed the Family MCA suspects in five different locations in North Jakarta, Pangkal Pinang, Bali, Sumedang and Palu.
