TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The initiatives for an intimate relationship doesn’t only come from the husband. On the contrary, refusing to have sex is no longer the prerogative right of the wife.

There are many reasons for a man to refuse an activity that can be considered as their main biological need. It could be because of the pressures of work, stress, or just plain lazy.

It would be wrong for a husband to think that their wife would be okay after refusing to have sex. In fact, women would feel the same as men do when their proposition to make love is declined.

“[The feeling between men and women] is similar but not exactly the same,” said Anggia Chrisanti, counselor, and therapist from Westaria psychological consultation bureau. “The husband’s refusal for an intimate relationship with their wife has an impact that cannot be underestimated,” she said.

1. A woman will feel inferior

If the rejection is continuous, a woman will doubt themselves, “Is there something wrong with me?” instead of thinking whether there is something wrong with their partner.

2. A woman will feel depressed

A husband who repeatedly refuses to be involved in a physical activity with his wife can cause the wife to be stressed. She would potentially be clouded with depression regarding her physique, and question whether she is worthy or not for her own husband.

3. Negative physical effects

Similar to men, women also have desires and need to participate in sexual activities and intimate affections with her husband. If that feeling is not channeled, it may cause uncomfortable feelings that can lead to health problems.

4. Negative Behavioral effects

The feeling of inconvenience, feeling rejected, depressed, will also affect a woman’s behavioral complaints. Women will tend to be more sensitive, forgetful, easily distracted, and overflowing emotions. This situation will be much worse when a couple already has children, since it may affect their child.
