TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Setya Novanto did not expect to be detained in the middle of the night by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). The suspect in the electronic ID card (e-KTP) graft case thought that he would have been given some time for a recovery after being examined by a doctor team of the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI).
“I had received a notice earlier. I did not expect it would be tonight; I thought I would’ve been given a chance for a recovery. I’m still in pain and suffer vertigo after the crash,” Setya Novanto said after being questioned by the KPK investigators early Monday morning. “But I abide by the law.”
The House Speaker expressed that he never thought to be detained despite the fact that he had only been questioned once by the KPK.

The KPK summoned Novanto for questioning on Wednesday but the latter skipped it for work reasons. The politician had earlier failed to attend e-KTP trial sessions as a witness.
Setya insisted that he had never skipped any KPK questioning due to various reasons.
The KPK came to Setya’s house on Wednesday night to pick him up but the House Speaker was not present.
The Golkar Party politician reportedly had an accident on Thursday night and was admitted to Medika Hospital.
The KPK named Setya Novanto a fugitive that night. The anti-graft agency investigators came to Medika Hospital to find out Setya’s condition. On Friday noon, he was transferred to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital. The KPK detained Setya early this morning after IDI examined his health.
