TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Golkar Party Executive Andi Sinulingga stated that a plan to dismiss Setya Novantoas the chairman of the party will be discussed in a meeting held next week. Andi claimed that if Setya Novanto is replaced, it will not bring any influence on the party’s regional candidates in joining 2018 general election.
"In this strongly hierarchical party, the case will pose no influence in regional areas," Andi said in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Saturday (18/11).
In the general election, Andi continued, people tend to choose a known figure, not based on the party’s background. He claimed that Golkar electability is still high despite the popular case of Setya Novanto.
Andi added that Setya’s case does not significantly affect the party. He believed that the absence of Setya Novanto’s leadership while undergoing the corruption does not affect the system and the agenda of the party because the party keeps running under acting chairman Nurdin Halid and Secretary General Idrus Marham.
