TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Thick cloud of smoke and fire came out of the meeting room at the second floor of the Nusantara III Building, in the parliament complex that houses the House of Representatives (DPR) and the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) today on Tuesday, November 14.
The fire initially triggered the fire alarms around 11:00 AM when news crews were interviewing constitutional law expert Refly Harun at the ground floor where DPR, MPR, and DPD leaders were working.
The incident forced an evacuation of DPR Secretariat General employees and House of Representatives Deputy Speaker Agus Hermanto.
Up to this moment, firefighters are still extinguishing the fire using one fire truck that has been on standby at the Parliament Complex. The cause of the fire is still unknown but is believed to be caused by a short circuit.
