VP Kalla, Turkish PM Meet To Discuss Economic Cooperation

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla attended a bilateral meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Mabeyn Palace, Dolmabache, Istanbul, on Friday, Oct. 20.


The meeting discussed enhancement and development of economic cooperation including trade, energy, and defense industries between the two countries.


The meeting of the two leaders was held after both leaders attended The 9th Developing Eight Summit (KTT D8) in Lutfi Kirdar International Convention & Exhibition Center, Istanbul, Turkey.


Indonesia Ambassador to Turkey, Wardana, stated that in the meeting, President Erdogan highlighted what has been discussed with President Joko Widodo pertaining enhancement and development of economic cooperation in trade, energy, defense industries and others.


To enhance cooperation of both countries, Erdogan proposed the establishment of High Level Strategic Council serving as a communication forum to regularly discuss cooperation development between the two countries in a number of fields, Wardana said.


In response, VP Kalla highly appreciated the proposition. Wardana continued that a draft of the agreement between Indonesia and Turkey will be prepared promptly.


"Foreign Affairs Ministers of both countries have been assigned to follow up this plan."
