TEMPO.CO, Kupang - As many as 13,000 former East Timor pro-integration fighters, widows, and orphans that are loyal to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) demanded the government to compensate them Rp50 million each. Most of the pro-integration fighters are living under the poverty line.

It is one of the many demands delivered by a former militia for Indonesian President Joko Widodo or Jokowi. The official demand was also signed by the former deputy commander of the pro-integration militia Eurico Gutters and was handed over to East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) regional officials on Tuesday, September 26, to be sent to Indonesia’s central government.

The letter, according to NTT regional secretariat Zakaris Moruk, asks about the political certainty of former East Timor’s citizenship regarding their loyalty to the NKRI.

The letter was addressed to President Jokowi and Chairman of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), House of Representatives (DPR), and the Regional Representative Council (DPD), which also questioned the legal certainty of the 403 Timorese people that are included in the list of serious crime and human rights offenders.

They also demanded that the former pro-integration youth fighters are given the chance to enlist as members of the Indonesian military, police force, and civil servants.
