KPAI: Children Must Be Guided During G30S PKI Film Screening

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Commission for Child Protection (KPAI) has called on the parents to supervise their children during the G30S PKI (Betrayal of Communists) movie screening.
KPAI commissioner Rita Pranawati said parents guide is important since the G30S PKI movie is not a G-rated (General Audience) movie. "Parents must explain and confirm the dos and don'ts," Rita told Tempo Saturday, September 23.
The parents’ companion is also important to neutralize moments where children see inappropriate scenes. Therefore, parents are urged to have a view about the G30S PKI film.

The G30S PKI movie screening has been done in several area in Jakarta, such as in Paseban administrative area, Central Jakarta. However, the duration of the film directed by Arifin C.Noer was cut to only an hour from originally four hours.
Rita continued, when children watch the the movie, it is important to prioritize a prolog and explanation about the history during that time. "The explanation can be done by the organizers," she said.
She said her office would keep its eyes on the movie screening event being held by many parties. "KPAI will also open to receive reports from the society," said Rita.
Previously, TNI commander Gatot Nurmantyo asserted the purpose of the G30S PKI film screening is to recall the history occurred in 1965. He viewed that today’s young generation have no access to the information about the G30S PKI incident.
