TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati met with the wife of Microsoft founder Melinda Gates in New York during the UN General Assembly. They discussed the Pathways for Prosperity initiative, which is a global partnership in developing new ideas for the inclusive future developments in the era of technology.
“Melinda and Bill Gates are philanthropists that care towards the role and influence of technology in its attempt to accelerate development. Representing Indonesia, myself and Strive Masiyiwa from Zimbabwe, have been chosen as co-chairs of the global initiative for the next two years,” said Sri Mulyani through her Facebook and Instagram account on Thursday, September 21.
Several issues being tackled by Pathways for Prosperity are about understanding change, specifically about the change and connection between technology’s inclusive growth and advancements. Especially for nations that are considered to be late-comers in economic development.
Pertama Understanding Change, yaitu bagaimana memahami konteks perubahan dalam hubungan antara pertumbuhan inklusif dan perkembangan teknologi, khususnya bagi negara-negara late comer dalam pembangunan ekonomi.
The second issue is the policy response on how policymakers and stakeholders synergize together in creating new ideas, developing public debates, and utilizing the latest researches to help solve problems of change. Lastly is the society’s readiness in preparing citizens of developed countries to push for an inclusive growth by utilizing technological advancements.
Sri Mulyani hopes that the partnership can bring substantial contributions for developed countries, which could improve the living standards of millions of people.
