The corpse flower was discovered by the Head of Region III Conservation Bintang Hutajulu, with the help of the local people of Bukit Melintang village on Friday morning, September 15.

It takes years for this species to blossom. After going through the generative phase, A. gigas will go through a dormant phase before entering its vegetative phase.

Another similar species was discovered by BKSDA Riau. It grew two meters high in between rubber trees and several bamboo plants at the conservation. The Conservation Head of BKSDA Region III Riau Bintang Hutajulu invited the local society to pay a visit to the location in order to officially measure the corpse flowers.

“In order to witness the rare flowers together at the Bukit Bungkuk Conservation and to protect the astonishing finding,” said Bintang.
