Minister: Morotai to be Center of Economic Growth in North Maluku

TEMPO.CO, Ternate - The central government is going to make Morotai Island as one of the centers of economic growth in North Maluku (Malut) Province. This was stated by the National Development Planning (PPN) Minister who is also the head of National Development Planning Board (Bappenas), Bambang Brodjonegoro.
"This time, Morotai Island holds priority in developing Special Economic Zone (SEZ or KEK in Indonesian) to enhance economic impact to the surrounding areas," Bambang Brodjonegoro said in Ternate on Friday, Sept. 15.
He explained that Morotai Island situated around the borders of the Philippines and the Pacific Ocean certainly has distinct attractions in terms of tourism development and various natural resources.
Furthermore, Malut’s geographical location supports trade with Pelauw Island which optimizes the island’s potentials in archipelago economy and maritime.
