TEMPO.CO, San Francisco - The upcoming Google Pixel 2 will be the first phone powered by Snapdragon 836, a revised version of Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 (SoC), according to industry insiders cited by Androidheadlines, Monday 24 July 2017.

The source did not specify whether the chip would appear on both the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL or only one of phones. Some recent reports indicate that there will be large differences between the Pixel and Pixel 2 XL.

This latest report is different from some of the previous rumors and leaks related to the upcoming Pixel 2 line, stating that the devices will come with Snapdragon 835.

A device called the Pixel 2 XL appeared on the GFXBench mobile benchmark database site in early June, with details indicating that the device will use Snapdragon 835.

However, the source of the report also claims that Snapdragon 836 will be relatively similar to its hardware predecessor, but it will feature a higher GPU clock speed and a CPU higher than Snapdragon 835.

Snapdragon 835, the first chipset to be made on the 10 nm Qualcomm SoC equipped with eight Kryo 280 cores, has a maximum frequency of 2.45GHz, and the Adreno 540 GPU. If the router offers a hardware with an identical base clock, then this chip will have energy efficiency like Snapdragon 835 in everyday use, although its performance is stronger under heavy loads.

Snapdragon 836 itself recently reported to have improved performance compared to the Snapdragon 835, similar to how Snapdragon 821 was upgraded from Snapdragon 820 last year.
