A Bottle of Penfolds Grange Hermitage sold for US$41,000

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A 66-year-old bottle of Australian wine was recently sold for US$41,000 in Melbourne. MW Wines Managing Director, Nick Stamford, admitted that he was surprised by the selling price and that it is considered as one of the highest price ever recorded for a bottle of wine in history.
Nick revealed that wines produced in 1951 are currently being celebrated considering that many of them are not in a pristine condition to be consumed anymore.
A bottle of 1951 Penfolds Grange Hermitage was auctioned by MW Wines on Wednesday, July 19. The person that will be bringing home the US$41,110 worth of bottle of wine is a wine collector that prefers to remain anonymous.
The wine is Penfolds’ first and was created by Max Schubert, a pioneering Australian winemaker during his time. The Grange Hermitage was never publicly available. Out of 1,800 bottles of wine produced, only 20 survived until the present day.
Another bottle of wine from the 1951 production batch was sold for US$39,870 back in 2004.
