TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Google Indonesia today features a doodle showing a traveling car full of people carrying stacks of boxes on top of its ceiling, which represent the excitement of the annual homecoming.
“Today’s doodle marks the start of 'Mudik’, a yearly homecoming in Indonesia,” Google described.
The doodle also depicts a motorcycle with stacks of luggage tied at the back of the motorcycle rider. You can also see buses in the background.
“During this moment, they who live in cities travel long distances to visit their relatives in rural areas,” Google explained.
“People who do this will travel by any means necessary either by motorcycle, train, car or bus. Regional governments even offer free ‘Mudik’ services, discounted tickets help motorcycle riders to board a ferryboat and bus,” Google continued.
Google also mentioned the fact that electricity usage drops 70 percent in Jakarta during a homecoming season.
