TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An academician of Ganesha Education University (Undiksha) Singaraja, Bali, I Made Pageh M.Hum invited the young generation in the area to learn tolerance from the history of the past. "Never forget history because this nation was built upon values of religious tolerance," he said in Singaraja on Saturday (27/5).

He explained that our ancestors and historians have inherited great tolerance values. Bali is claimed as one of tolerance barometers in Indonesia. Pageh revealed that the existence of diversity in the Island of Gods can be observed from the existing traditional villages.

"In Singaraja, there are Java village, Bugis village, and Madura village that characterize diverse ethnic groups that have coexisted harmoniously since hundreds of years ago," he continued.

He expects that everyone can maintain the existing diversity. He believes that tolerance has been going well. However, young generation who learn religion outside of Bali bring in new beliefs and intend to change the values of tolerance.

"The emerging phenomenon is young generation who think they are knowledgeable on religion want to change the traditions and customs that have been passed on for generations," he added.
