TEMPO.CO, Padang - Former Tottenham man Didier Zokora has joined Indonesian side Semen Padang. The Ivorian had his first training session yesterday at the Agus Salim Stadium.
“A one-year contract has been signed,” Semen Padang manager Win Bernadino said yesterday. Zokora wore a yellow no. 15 jersey during the training session.
The midfielder did not finish the session. “He is 70 percent fit. You can’t doubt his technique though,” Semen Padang coach Nil Maizar told reporters after the training.
Semen Padang CEO Daconi said that Zokora has been signed to fill the gap in the midfield area. The club needs a defensive midfielder following Ko Jae-sung injury setback.
Zokora’s agent Gabriel Budi said that contract talks had been held since early this month. The player decided to join Semen Padang despite offers from foreign clubs. “He’s in a good physical condition. Before arriving here, he maintained his physique by training in the Ivory Coast,” he said.
The 36-year-old player holds the record for the most appearances as the national team captain with 123 caps. He previously played for elite European clubs, such as Tottenham Hotspurs and Sevilla.
