TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta governor-elect Anies Baswedan said that he and deputy governor-elect Sandiaga Uno will maintain good relations with the legislative council (DPRD).

According to Anies, the executive and legislative branches do not always have to disagree with each other. “Jakarta is not the only province in Indonesia who has to work closely with the legislative council [DPRD]. If other regions can do that, why can’t Jakarta?" he said at his campaign outpost in Cicurug, Central Jakarta on Tuesday, April 25, 2017.

The former Education Minister said that any communication problem between his incoming administration and the DPRD ought to be addressed amicably. “Without mutual respect, the businesses run by Bang Sandi wouldn’t have grown. Without it, we wouldn’t have performed well,” said Anies.

Jakarta DPRD deputy speaker, also Anies-Sandi campaign deputy manager, Mohamad Taufik is confident that the winning pair is capable of improving relations between the executive and the legislative branches.

Earlier, another Jakarta DPRD deputy speaker Abraham Lunggana alias Haji Lulung had called on Ahok not to encourage Anies-Sandi to be at odds with the DPRD.
