TEMPO.CO, Sukabumi - Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Chairman KH Ma'ruf Amin said that Islamic state or Khilafah does not suit Indonesia since Indonesia is already a republic.
"Indonesia’s system is republic, as a national pillar that has been agreed upon. We do not need to bring khilafah into discussion, it’s not possible," Ma'ruf Amin said in Jakarta on Saturday (22/4).
The chairman confirms that Indonesian figures from any schools of Islamic law (mazhab) have agreed the system applied today and the emergence of a new system will create turmoil.
"The consensus is clear. The cause of this question is a new group that wants to apply a different system," Maruf Amin said a response to a plan of an event called "International Khilafah Forum" to be held in Jakarta.
Jakarta Police will not provide permission to Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI) to hold the forum in Balai Sudirman Tebet on Sunday (23/4) in Jakarta as a result of their evaluation of the potential outcome of the event, Jakarta Police Spokesperson Comr. Sr. Argo Yuwono said on Saturday (22/4).
