TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Finance Ministry said that US-based energy company General Electric (GE) is ready to construct a factory in Indonesia. Negotiations on the project and its following investments are currently ongoing between GE and the Indonesian government.

"I've met with GE CEO [Jeff Immlet] who personally come to Indonesia. I heard questions from GE about their interests and possible obstacles in investing in Indonesia," said Finance Minister Sri Mulyani on Thursday, April 13, 2017.

Sri Mulyani explained that GE has expressed its interest to invest in Indonesia. Sri added that high rate of development in Indonesian cities has become the main attraction for the energy company to make investments in the country.

Sri Mulyani stated that GE had also asked the government about its future policies related to the energy sector. In addition, Sri said that GE also raised questions on policies related to transportation and infrastructure. "And because I am the Finance Minister, I only talked with GE about future prospects, and whether the government had provided enough infrastructure supports," Sri explained.

Currently, GE has 11 business units in Indonesia, covering aviation industry, oil and gas, energy, medical services, and transportation, among others. GE had also established partnerships with state-owned enterprises including PT INKA (Industri Kereta Api), and PT GFM AeroAsia (Garuda Maintenance Facility), a subsidiary of Garuda Indonesia.
