TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s second largest Muslim organization Muhammadiyah chairman Haedar Nashir expects the Supreme Court not to issue a controversial ruling on Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama’s status as Jakarta Governor.
“I only have one wish: please don’t issue a controversial [decision]. That’s all,” Haedar said after meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Xie Feng at Muhammadiyah Dakwah Center in Jakarta on Monday, February 20, 2017.
Haedar said that other aspects shall also be taken into considerations before issuing such decision, such as national security and unity.
According to Haedar, the Supreme Court ruling will provide legal certainty over the dispute in Ahok’s reinstatement as Jakarta governor.
Earlier, the Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo claimed that he had been informed of the Supreme Court ruling over Ahok’s reinstatement. Tjahjo, however, declined to reveal the contents.
