TEMPO.CO, Banjarmasin - Banjarmasin Mayor Ibnu Sina, said that he will provide access to education for street children as mandated in a bylaw on protection for street children.

"We expect to see no more children dropping out of school in our area because the city administration will ensure their access to education, including protection in the form of shelters," Ibnu Sina said in Banjarmasin, on January 2, 2017, as quoted by Antara news agency.

The city council on Friday passed six draft bylaws, including a bylaw on protection for street children.

According to Ibnu Sina, his administration will fulfill the obligation to provide protection for the street children this year.

Banjarmasin city councilor Dedy Supian said that city administration must build an appropriate facility to house street children "for monitoring purposes."

"Otherwise, it would be difficult to run the program," Dedy added.
