TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bali Hijau Lestari Foundation (YBHL) and the Asian Green Forest Network Japan (AGFN) held the Bali Reforestation Festival 2016 by planting trees in the Batur region, Kintamani, Bali.

Director General of Sustainable Forest Management at the Environment and Forestry Ministry Ida Bagus Putera Parthama expressed his appreciation for YBHL in conducting the activity.

“I’m proud of witnessing the younger generations saving Bali and the environment. I think this is incredible. Such initiatives must be continued. The government is focusing on the matter but it’s difficult if cultivation is only done by the government, due to the broad restoration area. That ‘s why, support from communities, private parties, and society is very essential,” he said on Monday, December 12, 2016.

The Sunday (Dec.11) event, that was the eight times event, was supported by a number of public elements, namely individual, organizations, schools, as well as private and state companies, such as the Asia Pulp Paper (APP) Sinar Mas.

The first Bali Reforestation Festival was held in 2008 and has cultivated more that 53,000 trees in 85-hectare space and even wider ever since.

The current cultivation was held at the Mount Batur Natural Park, Bangli District. The Ampupu seed that is used for the tree cultivation was provided by the people of Bali and Japan with the coordination from YBHL and AGFN.

Meanwhile, AFGN Chairman Miyazaki said the event was held in Bali due to his friend's recommendation who said that forest in Bali Island is only 22 percent left.
