TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jimly Asshidiqqie, Chief of Election Organizer Honorary Council (DKPP) suggested that the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) should be provided with more authorities. Jimly said that the Bawaslu should be allowed to disband political parties that violated election regulations.
"If a political party violates certain regulations, Bawaslu should have the legal standing to disband it," Jimly said on Wednesday, December 7, 2016.
According to Jimly, the ability to disband a political party is currently held by the government. "The winning political party can just go on and propose [to the government] to disband their rival party," Jimly said.
Jimly suggested that the Bawaslu should be transformed into the Election Honorary Court that handles ethical violations and violations of election laws.
