The murder of Human Rights activist Munir.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Presidential spokesman Johan Budi Sapto Prabowo said that the President has expressed that the government is committed to resolving the murder case of human rights activist Munir Said Thalib. Therefore, the government will continue the search for missing Fact-Finding Team (TPF) document on Munir’s murder. The document will be needed not only for public disclosure but also to follow up the TPF findings in the document.

“The President has expressed his commitment to resolving Munir’s case. But, yes, the original document must be found [first and foremost],” Johan Budi told Tempo yesterday.

The TPF document on Munir’s murder had been handed over to the then-president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on July 23, 2005. However, it has now gone missing. The Central Information Commission (KIP) had ruled on October 10, 2016, that the government should disclose the information contained in the document to the public. President Joko Widodo had instructed the Attorney General to find the missing document and examine it to resolve Munir’s murder case.

Former state secretariat minister Sudi Silalahi had handed over on Wednesday the copy of the TPF document on Munir’s murder to the State Secretariat Minister. Johan said that the document would be delivered to Attorney General Muhammad Prasetyo.

However, Attorney General Muhammad Prasetyo had repeatedly said that he was not interested with the copy of the document, citing questionable accuracy. Moreover, he believed that he would find the original document. “The President has instructed us to find the original document,” he said on Wednesday.

Hendardi, a former member of TPF for Munir’s murder case, said that the missing original TPF document should not stop the government from disclosing the copy of the document it received. “I believe it can be verified whether it has the same content with the original document, there is no excuse,” he said yesterday.
