Three Companies Cause Cimanuk Flood

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Director of the West Java Police Special Criminal Investigation Directorate Adj. Comm. Diki Budiman said that some of the companies that constructed buildings at the headwaters of Cimanuk River do not have a permit.


The information was revealed after the police summoned six companies for investigation on violations at the headwaters of Cimanuk River. “Three out of six companies that were brought in didn’t have permits,” he said on Friday, October 7, 2016.


The six companies work in the tourism sector, agribusiness, and property renting agency. But Diki refused to name the companies involved.


After the flash flood that destroyed seven sub-districts in Garut, the local police formed a special team to investigate any violation occurred at the headwaters of Cimanuk river.


Diki stated that as of Friday, October 7, 2016, his team is still investigating 15 parties, one of which is an institution and agency that managed the Cimanuk river headwaters area.


The police are investigating documents related to the policy and procedure that is issued by government institutions.


The agencies and institutions that have been inspected by the police are Perhutani, National Defense Agency for the District of Garut, Spatial and Settlement Services, Environmental Management Agency, and PT Agro. Other than that, some sub-districts heads were also investigated.
