Kalla Hopes Regional Election Runs Smoothly

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf Kalla expressed his optimism that the upcoming simultaneous regional election will run safely. "I am sure it will be safe," Kalla said on Monday, September 26, 2016.

Kalla also hoped that regional election in high-risk areas such as Aceh and West Papua can also run smoothly.

Previously, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affiars Wiranto said that the Election Monitoring Agency (Bawaslu) issued an index stating that Aceh, Papua, and Jakarta are the three most high-risk areas for the upcoming regional election.

However, Wiranto said that the index is not permanent. "It is dynamic," said Wiranto.

Wiranto added that the index can be a sort of an early warning system for the regions. "We still have time to lower the index," Wiranto said. "When the election takes place, we hope the index will have gone down."
