Minister Luhut Opens Renewable Energy Congress

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Coordinating Maritime Affairs Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan opened the 15th World Renewable Energy Congress in relation the 5th Indonesia Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Summit in a bid to boost the renewable energy sector.
“In this event, there will be exchanges of ideas and sector improvement, particularly for Indonesia,” Luhut said in his speech at the Jakarta Convention Centre, South Jakarta on Tuesday, September 20, 2016.
During the event held on September 19-23, 2016, the Minister explained that Indonesia is entering a new era, in which the government is striving for the development of the renewable energy. He suggested that such a development could be realized by establishing cooperating with a number of institutions.
Luhut admitted that non-renewable energies, such as coal and gas, provide significant revenue for Indonesia. However, the government would continue to promote the use of renewable energy.
Therefore, he explained that the government would amend regulations to facilitate investors, providing more freedom for companies to run their businesses.
“The government now realizes that business owners are government’s partners,” Luhut added.
Rida Mulyana, director general for new and renewable energy and energy conservation at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, said that coordination and communication between the government and investor would be necessary to develop renewable energy.
The World Renewable Energy Congress is a forum for scientists, experts, business leaders, policy makers, investors and financial institutions to discuss the use of environmentally-friendly energy.
