TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The number of people infected by Zika virus in Singapore continues to grow. However, Director General of Disease Control and Environmental Health, the Health Ministry, Muhammad Subuh has confirmed that there had been no Indonesians among those infected with Zika virus in Singapore.

“No reports yet of Indonesians infected [with the virus],” Subuh told Tempo Wednesday in Jakarta.

According to Subuh, the number of people infected by Zika virus continues to grow. As of press time, 81 people have been infected by the virus.

Subuh said that he didn’t expect the virus to suddenly grow rapidly in Singapore. “We are now witnessing that our neighbouring country is on the brink of some kind of outbreak,” he said.

Subuh confirmed that the government continues to communicate with Singapore’s health authorities to monitor the spread of the virus and prepare for preventive measures. The Health Ministry has increased alertness over Zika virus since Sunday, August 28, 2016.

The Health Minister on Monday, August 29, has issued health alert card. The card must be filled by every Singaporean wanting to enter Indonesia to examine their health.
