TEMPO.CO, Semarang - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo had been scheduled to inaugurate Hasyim Asy’ari as the National Election Committee (KPU) member today, August 29, 2016, in the Presidential Palace, Jakarta.

Hasyim, a lecturer at Dipenogoro University, Semarang, replaces Husni Kamil Manik who passed away in July.

He said that he would soon adjust himself to a new work environment to set the KPU agenda, among others, the organization of simultaneous regional elections in 2017. “Including to finalize the KPU regulation,” Hasyim said Monday.

In addition, Hasyim said he will carry out the mission with other KPU members to control, coordinate and supervise provincial and district/municipality election committees who will hold simultaneous regional elections in 2017. “I will adjust myself to the dynamics and the rhythm of work at the KPU,” he said.

Hasyim earned his law degree at the Faculty of Law of Jenderal Soedirman University, Purwokerto (graduated in 1995); master’s degree in politics at Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Yogyakarta (graduated in 1998); and doctoral degree in political sociology at University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (graduated in 2012). He also serves as the commander of Central Java Nahdlatul Ulama multipurpose front (Banser NU) 2014-2018.
