Ministry Calls on Companies to Implement Green Industry Principle

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta- The Industry Ministry called on companies to innovate the industry businesses in which fostering better environment and improve the people’s life quality. Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto said that industries were urged to use environmentally-friendly technology and resources to boost efficiency and effectiveness of their businesses.
“Therefore, the business social aspect is closely linked to a sustainable development. So, it is not all about economic aspect, but also the social and environmental impact in the short run and long run,” Airlangga said in a press release in Jakarta on Friday, August 26, 2016.
During the 2016 Social Business Innovation Award & Green CEO Award event, Airlangga expressed optimism that the implementation of the green industry concept through production efficiency and natural resources utilization effectiveness would increase performance and growth in industrial sectors.
“Amid the slowing down national economy, the processing industry growth rate in the second quarter of 2016 reached 4.61 percent,” Airlangga revealed.
The highest growth was achieved by the machinery and equipment industry at 9.9 percent followed by the transportation industry with a growth rate of 8.39 percent, the food and beverage industry (8.20 percent), and the leather products and footwear industry (7.74 percent).
Airlangga asserted that the non-oil and gas industry had an important role in the national economic growth, with the highest contribution at 33.3 percent was provided by the food and beverage industry, followed by the metal product industry at 10.5 percent, and the transportation industry at 10.5 percent.
Haris Munanda, head of the Research and Development Center (BPPI) at the Industry Ministry, said that the Ministry had given awards to green industries to appreciate their efforts in implementing the green industry principles in their production process.
