TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Ade Komarudin asked that the government do not cut the budget for teacher’s allowance and suggest to cut the budget in other sectors, including government officials’ salary.

“If nothing else can be cut, just cut government officials’ salary,” Ade said at Nusantara III building, Parliament Complex, Senaya, Jakarta on Friday, Aug. 26.

According to the Golkar politician, teachers give large contribution and everyone should be thankful to them. “We become who we are because of them,” he said. Ade say he will speak to Finance Minister Sri Mulyani and Parliament Budget Agency to not cut teachers’ allowance.

In yesterday’s session with the parliament, Sri Mulyani announced her plan to cut teacher’s professional allowance by Rp 23.4 trillion on the 2016 State-Budget Change. This is done in order to save regional transfer of Rp 70.1 trillion.

“I hope this does not mean that we do not support them. But its overbudget,” said Sri Mulyani.

The cut is done to adjust the budget with the actual number of teachers on the field. Sri say she can not give allowance to non-sertified teachers.
