TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Japan Ship Machinery and Equipment Association (JSMEA) is ready to invest shipping component products for Indonesia's shipping and shipbuilding industries.

JSMEA Vice President Masaki Matsui said the association is set to establish industrial cooperation with Indonesia. Matsui said this is a follow up on the Transportation Ministry's visit to Japan last February.

He said that many of Japan's used vessels are still capable of operating in Indonesia thanks to their durable engines.

"That's why, with this opportunity, we wish to collaborate with Indonesian businessmen through every organization, the INSA and IPERINDO," Matsui told Bisnis Indonesia, Wednesday, July 27.

The business matching program between JSMEA and Indonesian shipping companies is expected to be held every two years.

Chairman of the Indonesian National Shipowners Association (INSA) Johnson W. Sutjipto said that the JSMEA's meeting with Indonesian businesses—also called business matching—was the second.

JSMEA has some 250 companies manufacturing and ship components as members, which Johnson said are major players in the shipbuilding components industry.
