TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama said that he would instruct schools to expel students for bullying new students during the orientation period.
“As soon as we find out that there is a bullying, we will expel [the student],” Ahok said at the City Hall in Jakarta on Saturday, July 23, 2016.
Ahok issued the statement following a recent bullying case involving students at a public high school SMAN 6 Jakarta.
In addition, Ahok threatened that he would revoke the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP) subsidy of students who perpetrated the bullying.
“Non-KJP recipients [involved in bullying cases] will be expelled from their school. If they are KJP recipients, their subsidy will be revoked,” he added.
Ahok explained that the number of KJP recipients this year had been decreasing, since many of them had misused the subsidy.
Ahok explained that the move of revoking the KJP served as an education to provide a deterrent effect for those misusing the subsidy.
