TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia's (BI) Senior Deputy Governor Mirza Adityaswara, said that inflation figures around Eid al-Fitr is expected to be lower than the inflation figures recorded during the month of Ramadan - with figures expected to hover between 0.9 and 1.2 percent.

"In June, inflation was recorded at 0.6 percent - so we are indeed, doing much better," said Mirza in Jakarta on Thursday, July 7, 2016. "In the coming years, we hope we can bring inflation down below 0.5 percent during Ramadan by keeping supply of food and thus prices in check - in accordance to the President's instructions."

In July, continued Mirza, inflation figures are not expected to increase significantly. "It will increase slightly as students commence the new academic year - but nothing out of the ordinary," Mirza said.

According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia's month-to-month inflation figure stood at 0.66 percent - within range of the inflation figure recorded in the past five years for the month of June.

Commodities and items that contribute to June's inflation figures include airfares, chicken, fresh fish, eggs, sugar, potatoes, carrots, rice, spinach, apples, electricity bills, gold jewelries, and intercity transport fares. Meanwhile, the increasing prices is balanced out by a sharp drop in shallot prices - which has decreased by 10.19 percent.
