Lombok to Play Host to World Paragliding Championship on August 4

TEMPO.CO, Mataram - The world paragliding championship will be held in Are Guling Central Lombok District on August 4-8, 2016. Some 147 participants from 20 countries have registered for the Paragliding Accuracy World Cup (PGACW), namely from China, Serbia, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Slovenia, the United States and Czech Republic.
“In accordance with the theme, i.e. accuracy, the paragliding sport tourism championship will be focused on the competition of landing accuracy,” says Rembiga Air Base Commander Colonel Bambang Gunarto.
He is hopeful that the PGAWC will give more attention to East Nusa Tenggara. “Particularly Lombok as a world-class tourist destination,” Bambang says on Thursday.
An official of Indonesia Aerosport Federation (FASI) East Nusa Tenggara Nanang Wirawan says that the event will be the biggest in paragliding history, since the World Cup, Asian Cup and Indonesia’s National Competition will be held during the event.
Head of East Nusa Tenggara Culture and Tourism Office Lalu Moh. Faozal said that the world paragliding championship will add to the the existing sport tourism competitions in East Nusa Tenggara, both in Lombok and Sumbawa. “It will make the region more popular at the international stage,” he said.
East Nusa Tenggara Culture and Tourism Office will promote the PGWAC in the launch of Lombok Sumbawa Culture Month (BBLBS) on June 17, 2016, in Jakarta, during the car free day on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman and Jalan Thamrin.
