TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-The Finance Ministry's Tax Directorate General announced that the state tax revenue had reached Rp364.1 trillion as of May 2016. The amount is 26.8 percent of this year's Rp1,360.2-trillion target as set in the 2016 state budget.
"Compared to last year, this is still a minus. But there is a 12-percent growth compared to May 2015," the ministry's director for Policy Analysys and Harmonization Center Lucky Alfirman said in Jakarta last week.
Meanwhile, non-tax revenues had only reached Rp89.1 trillion of the Rp273.8-trillion target.
"Lifting output is down, not reaching our target. [Revenues] from the coal and mineral sector are also below target," he said.
This year the Tax DG aims to boost revenues from individual taxpayers. Lucky said there are some 42 million taxpayers that the state will collect from. The government will also seek tax income from e-commerce businesses and foreign investments. "Many foreign investors operate here, but we keep losing taxes—we will investigate that later," he said.
The government also plans to establish a state institution whose specific task is to boost tax revenues. "The agency will not only serve to collect taxes, but also monitor taxes," the Finance Ministry's expert staff Suryo Utomo said.
