Students Enliven the Tempo-Microsoft Hackathon

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-The Hackathon competition held by Tempo Media Team and Microsoft Indonesia has attracted programmers from university students. University of Indonesia (UI) sent three teams to compete at the program held at the Ballroom of Ritz Carlton Hotel in Pacific Place on Thursday, May 26, 2016.
As many as 50 teams with various background participated at the Hackathon event; mostly by the start up teams. Each team had been given two weeks to formulate their projects. These teams compete in eight categories; breaking news, social media, crowdsourcing, big data, business models, public goods, user experience and multimedia.
Tempo prepared eight senior journalists and its manager as discussion partners of the participants.
Hudya Ramadhani, member of Areus team from UI who runs the category of Big Data project said the long preparation period for the hackathon has helped the programmers to finish the projects. "Usually, hackethon must be done in 24 hours, now we can do it more relaxed."
Telkom University of Bandung sent 4Creations team who works at the category of Breaking News. Other teams participating in the competition are Kecoa Developer from UIN Malang, Vuvivu from ITS Surabaya, Lavorus from Brawijaya University of Malang, and AYE-IT team from Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia.
The judges will choose two best teams for each category. The 16 teams will then be given chance to show a brief presentation in front of the juries. The winner of each category will get technopreneurship prize from Microsoft with the total of US$175,000. The prototypes of the winners will then be developed and applied in Tempo.
The even was attended by CEO Microsoft Satya Nadella as well as other VIP guests including Head of Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf) Triawan Munaf, and Communication and Informatics Minister Rudiantara who were welcomed by Director of Experience and Evangelism Developer of Microsoft Indonesia, Anthonius Henricus and President Director of PT Tempo Inti Media Tbk Bambang Harymurti.
Hackathon held by Tempo and Microsoft Indonesia is the competition for the programmer and developer in Indonesia. "Our commitment is to help the winners of the hackathon to be successful technopreneurs," said Anthonius.
