TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -Eva Kusuma Sundari from the Finance Commission of the House of Representatives said tax amnesty tariff will be increased. The decision was made in a limited cabinet meeting in which Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro was also present, the lawmaker of Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) faction said.
“The tariff has been increased. PDIP wants to convince the government to be confident,” Eva told Tempo yesterday, May 22, 2016. Without revealing the exact figure, Eva said that increased tariff is better than previous formula of 1 to 3 percent tariff on sums repatriated and 2 to 6 percent for reported funds that are not repatriated.
She hoped that the government would be able to rapatriate over Rp11,400 trillion with the increased tariff. Eva has also expressed her approval on the government’s effort to provide protection to taxpayers against information disclosure.
Deliberations in the House’s commission will be implemented in at least two week’s time, she said. “But it hasn’t officially been introduced to the commission plenary,” she said.
Head of the House’s Commission XI Ahmadi Noor Supit did not deny that the deliberation of tax amnesty bill could be delayed from the initial deadline of May 30, 2016. Because other than the tariff, some pressing issues must still be deliberated, such as the tax amnesty period. “Deliberations are scheduled to be carried out on June 16, 2016,” Ahmadi said.
Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro will go with the discussion flow at the commission. “We are glad if the tariff is increased, but we also want repatriation. We will certainly discuss it comprehensively,” Bambang said last week.
