TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-The Ministry of Environment and Forestry has issued a decree on the controversial reclamation project of Jakarta's northern coastline on Tuesday, May 10, 2016. "We finalized the decree last night, and will immediately publish it on Wednesday," said the Minister for Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya, to Tempo on Wednesday morning, May 11, 2016.

The Minister also said that her Ministry will swiftly act after the decree is published through a press release, which scheduled for Wednesday afternoon at the Manggala Wanabakti Building.

Last week on Wednesday, Siti, along with the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs, Rizal Ramli, the Minister for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs Susi Pudjiastuti, and Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, visited C and D Island - two reclaimed islands, to which access has been severely restricted following the findings of bribes involved in the permit issuance process of the islands off Jakarta Bay.

Access to the D Island has also been severely restricted because hundreds of buildings have been built despite the fact that the zoning masterplan discussion for the Island has yet to be completed by Jakarta's Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) - which means, the buildings were built without the Regional Regulation on Spatial Zonation having been issued, and more simply put, built without building permits (IMB).

At that time, Siti has made it clear that any on-going construction must be ceased immediately until her Ministry issues a decree about the controversy - and Siti made it clear that by on-going construction she meant both on the reclaimed islands, as well as sand mining around Jakarta Bay.
