TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Dozens of Islamic Defender Front (FPI) members raided the Indonesian Arts and Culture Institute (ISBI) in Bandung on Tuesday, May 10, 2016, forcing to dismiss a discussion on Karl Marx ideas held by Daun Jati, ISBI's student press organization.
Ganda Swarna, Daun Jati’s Editor in Chief said that FPI members come to the organization’s office and demanded the event to be dismissed.
"They enter ISBI's one person at a time. Once they gather enough masses, they come to [Daun Jati's] secretariat, demanding the discussion to be stopped," Ganda said to Tempo on Tuesday, May 10, 2016.
The FPI demanded the discussion to be stopped because they consider it as a forum to spread communism.
"We explained that the Karl Marx discussion class has nothing to do with the spread of certain doctrine or ideology. That is why we call it the Karl Marx Ideas class, not Marxism [class]," Ganda stated.
